5 Ways to Keep Showing Up When Motivation and Energy Let You Down

lazy woman

Some days, it feels like everything conspires against you. Deadlines, meetings, family responsibilities, personal goals, all of it, and yet your energy is flat, your brain foggy, and motivation nowhere to be found.

You try to push through, but it’s like your mind refuses to cooperate.

I know this feeling well. Today, I woke up determined to get things done, but nothing landed. I felt frustrated and stuck.

And then I realised something important: it’s okay. Showing up isn’t always about perfection or achievement.

Sometimes, it’s about being human and giving yourself the tools to keep moving forward, even when your brain isn’t playing fair.

Here are five ways to get through the days when energy, creativity, or motivation just won’t show up.

1. Start with self-compassion:

High-achieving women are often their own harshest critics. When things don’t go to plan, the inner voice can be relentless.

But neuroscience shows that self-criticism triggers the stress centre in your brain, making focus and decision-making even harder.

Pause. Speak to yourself like a trusted friend. Acknowledge the frustration and remind yourself that this is temporary and human.

2. Take micro-actions:

When motivation is low, small steps are key. Make one phone call, reply to a single email, or plan just the first five minutes of your day.

Behavioural science proves that tiny actions build momentum and signal to your brain that you are moving forward. Progress doesn’t always have to be big to matter.

3. Engage your subconscious mind:

Your subconscious is constantly working behind the scenes. Hypnosis or guided visualisation can help you bypass mental blocks.

Even a few minutes imagining yourself moving through tasks with ease or handling the day with focus can shift your mindset.

Your brain often cannot tell the difference between imagined success and real success, priming you for action.

4. Shift your body and environment:

Your brain and body are connected. Sitting in the same position, staring at a screen, or being in a cluttered space can keep your energy low.

Stand up, stretch, go for a short walk, or tidy your workspace. Small physical changes reset your nervous system, increase clarity, and signal that it’s time to engage.

5. Give yourself permission to pause:

Not every day is a high-performance day. Pausing, reflecting, or taking a short break is not failure. Neuroscience calls this “incubation.”

Your subconscious continues problem-solving even when you step back consciously. Often, insights or solutions appear when you least expect them.

Here’s the truth: success-driven women do not need to be perfect every day. Showing up sometimes means being gentle with yourself, trusting your brain, and taking small, deliberate actions. Motivation and energy aren’t fixed, they can be cultivated.

Hypnosis, mindset work, and conscious intention are tools to retrain your mind so you choose confidence, clarity, and focus, even on the hardest days.

So if today feels like one of those days where your brain refuses to cooperate, remember this: you are human. Show up in the best way you can today, and let the rest unfold.
