Feel the Fear and Do It Anyway: 5 Tips to Move From Fear Into Action

a woman thinking

You know that tight feeling in your chest, when your heart beats faster and your stomach flips like you’ve just been called to speak in front of the whole room? That’s fear kicking in.

And if you’re anything like the amazing women I work with, you’ve probably felt it when you:

  • Thought about leaving a job that drains your soul

  • Wanted to set a boundary with someone you care about

  • Knew deep down it was time to break a habit, but the idea of change made you feel frozen

  • Felt the pull to follow a dream — but didn’t want to risk failing or looking silly

We all face moments where we know what we want, but fear stands in the way. And it can be so loud, so convincing, that we end up stuck in the same place… playing it safe, but also playing it small.

Let’s talk about that.

Is it a real threat or just your brain freaking out?

Here’s the thing: not all fear is bad. If you’re about to cross a busy road and your body tenses up — that’s your nervous system doing its job.

You feel that fear in the body, and it helps you stay alive. Very useful.

But then there’s perceived fear — the kind that pops up when you’re about to do something new, speak your truth, or show up in a different way. Your brain still sends out the “danger!” signal, but the threat isn’t physical — it’s emotional.

And because the body reacts similarly, we feel it as if it were real. But it’s not. It’s a story the mind is telling to keep you in the familiar, even if the familiar is making you miserable.

My Experience: Fear Was Loud, But I Got Louder

When I decided to change careers and become a coach and hypnotherapist, fear practically moved in with me.

It unpacked its bags and said, “Are you sure about this? People will think you’ve lost it. What if it all goes wrong?”

But you know what? I did it anyway.

And when I decided to quit drinking — a huge and deeply personal decision — that same fear popped up again. “What if I can't have fun anymore?” “What will people say?” “Will I still be me?”

It felt like standing on the edge of a cliff, not knowing if there was solid ground on the other side.

But I knew I wanted something better for myself. So I jumped.

And what I found on the other side? Clarity. Freedom. Confidence. And a version of me I never would’ve met if I’d stayed where I was.

Why Fear Shows Up Before the Good Stuff

Fear is a signal. Not of danger — but of growth.

It shows up right before the breakthrough. It’s like a gatekeeper, asking, “Are you sure you want this?”

And here’s the thing: most things that are really worth it — the ones that transform your life — live on the other side of that fear.

Think about it: The job that lights you up. The relationship that truly fulfils you. The habits that support your best self. The boundaries that protect your peace. All on the other side.

So How Do You Move From Fear Into Action?

Here are 5 practical steps to help you shift from frozen to fearless (well… fearful and moving):

1. Name the fear

Write it down. Say it out loud. Fear loses power when you name it. “I'm afraid people will judge me if I change careers.” “I'm scared I’ll fail if I try something new.”

2. Ask: is it real or just perceived?

Are you in actual danger… or just outside your comfort zone? This question alone can help you pause and respond instead of react.

3. Choose the smallest next step

You don’t need to leap the whole staircase. Just one step. Send the email. Make the call. Post the thing. Say the no.

4. Use hypnosis to rewire your fear

Hypnosis is a brilliant tool I use with my clients (and myself!) to dissolve fear at the subconscious level — the place where these emotional blocks actually live.

It helps you replace fear with clarity, courage, and deep self-trust. Think of it as spring-cleaning your mind.

5. Remember your ‘why’

What’s waiting for you on the other side of fear? More freedom? Confidence? A life that actually feels like yours? Hold on to that — it’s bigger than the fear.

Life Feels Different on the Other Side

I’m not going to tell you fear goes away forever. It doesn’t. Even now, as I grow my business, share more of my story, and make bolder choices, fear still taps me on the shoulder sometimes.

But now I smile at it, say “Thanks, I’ve got this,” and keep going.

Because the alternative? Staying small, stuck, and half-alive?

Not an option.

Now imagine this — really take a moment:

What will happen if you don’t act?

If you stay stuck in fear… If you keep doing the thing that doesn’t feel right… If you keep quiet, even when everything inside you is screaming for more…

Will you be proud of the choices you made? Will you feel fulfilled, lit up, alive? Will you be living the life you know is waiting on the other side?

Or will you still be stuck in the loop, wondering what could’ve happened if you had just backed yourself?

You already know what fear feels like. Why not find out what’s waiting when you move through it?

Don’t Let Fear Be the Boss of You

You’re allowed to be scared. But don’t let fear drive the car. Let it sit in the backseat while you take the wheel.

Be the woman who felt the fear and did it anyway. The one who backed herself — even when it was hard. The one who didn’t let a moment of doubt steal a life full of possibility.
