How to Know If It’s Time to Rethink Your Career (and What to Do Next)

I’m writing this from a couch, with a cat next to me acting like she’s in charge of my schedule.
This wasn’t planned months in advance. No big strategy. No “once everything is under control, then I’ll go”.
My sister is house-sitting over Easter and I just thought… yeah, I’ll come.
And I did.
I brought my notebook, my work, and my life with me.
And this is the part that still gets me sometimes…this gets to be normal now.
A few years ago, it wasn’t.
The life that looked good on paper
I was doing everything right.
Working hard. Being responsible. Building something stable.
From the outside, it made sense. From the inside, it felt tight.
Not dramatic. Not terrible. Just… off.
Like wearing a really nice outfit that doesn’t quite fit, but you keep adjusting instead of taking it off.
Nobody really prepares you for that feeling.
The one where you’ve ticked all the boxes…and still feel like something’s missing.
And then comes the uncomfortable question:
Is this actually what I want?
The moment things start to change and
For me, it wasn’t one big, brave leap.
It was a decision.
A quiet one, actually.
I stopped trying to build a life that looked right…and started thinking about what would feel right.
Freedom became non-negotiable. Not as a luxury, as a baseline.
I wanted to choose where I worked from. How I spent my time. Who I was around.
And that meant I had to build something different.
Something that didn’t rely on permission. Something that didn’t tie me to one place. Something that was mine.
So I went all in on creating a business that could support that.
Not perfectly. Not confidently. But consistently.
We’ve never had this much opportunity (and it’s a bit ridiculous)
Here’s what’s wild when you really think about it:
You can learn almost anything now, for free, or close to it.
You have access to tools, platforms, and knowledge that didn’t exist a decade ago. You can start a business from your laptop. You can reach people all over the world.
And now with things like ChatGPT and other AI tools, the barrier is even lower.
You don’t need to know everything. You need to be willing to figure things out.
Which sounds simple… but it requires a completely different way of thinking.
The future is changing whether we like it or not
Let’s be honest for a second, the job market isn’t what it used to be.
Things are shifting fast. Roles are changing. Some are disappearing. New ones are being created overnight.
And AI is not “coming”.
It’s here.
This isn’t about fear. It’s about awareness.
Because the people who will feel the most stuck are the ones who rely on one single way of earning money… and hope it stays the same.
And the ones who will feel the most free?
They’ll be the ones who have options.
Personal brand isn’t a trend. It’s protection.
I know “personal brand” can sound a bit… cringe.
Like you need to become an influencer overnight.
You don’t.
A personal brand is simply this:
People know what you do. They trust how you think. They remember you when they need help.
That’s it.
It’s your voice. Your perspective. Your experience.
And in a world where everything is changing fast, that becomes incredibly valuable.
Because jobs can change. Industries can shift.
But your ability to connect, communicate, and create something of your own?
That stays with you.
Money is not one thing
This is where most people get stuck.
We’re taught to think about money in one way:
You get a job. You get paid. You stay.
But money doesn’t work like that anymore.
Money is something you can create.
Through services, through products, ideas, solving problems...
There isn’t one path.
There are many.
And you don’t need to abandon your current life to start exploring that.
You can start small.
A side project. A skill you develop. A way to share what you know.
The goal isn’t to have it all figured out.
The goal is to stop believing there’s only one way.
You don’t need to blow your life up
Let’s be clear.
This isn’t about quitting your job tomorrow and hoping for the best.
It’s about paying attention.
To the thoughts you keep pushing away. To the curiosity you keep ignoring. To the quiet feeling that maybe… there’s more.
Because that feeling?
It’s not random, it’s information.
So what now?
Maybe nothing changes overnight.
But maybe today you start asking better questions.
What do I actually want my life to look like? What would I need to change to move in that direction? What’s one small step I could take this week?
That’s how it starts.
Not with a perfect plan. But with a decision to stop settling for a life that only looks good on paper.
I’m sitting here, working from a different place, living a life I once thought was “for other people”.
And the only reason it exists…is because I stopped waiting and started creating options.
Not bad, to be honest.
And that's exactly what I help women to do. To find out how to create a life and career, business, side hustle that make everything worth of waking up for on a Monday morning.
