Here’s what I noticed: every time I was getting close to something I wanted — whether it was more visibility, a great opportunity, or a feeling of ease — a part of me panicked.
It was like this internal voice said, “Wait, this feels too good. Something bad is going to happen. This is the part where it all crashes.”
That fear had been there for years. I’d just never recognised it.
At the time, I thought life was just unpredictable. I thought these interruptions, the setbacks, the lost motivation — were out of my control. But the truth? They were coming from inside me.
And the real kicker was, I didn’t know I was doing it.
Because sabotage isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s subtle. Logical. Reasonable, even.
But underneath, it was always the same old programming:
“I’m only valuable when I’m achieving.”
“People will only love me if I succeed.”
“If I get too big, something bad will happen.”
The Box We Were Trained to Fit Into
I didn’t come up with those thoughts out of nowhere.
They were built over years — from school systems that rewarded perfection, from a culture that told us to be quiet, good, and productive. From environments where being you wasn’t always safe or accepted.
I was taught to live in the box. The one built by fear, approval, and pressure to perform.
And when I started to grow out of that box — when I started choosing my truth over performance — that’s when the inner resistance screamed the loudest.
It’s not just me. I see this in the women I work with every week. You start doing the thing that’s aligned… and suddenly, everything in your nervous system says, “Nope. This isn’t safe.”
Awareness Was My First Step
The biggest shift came when I stopped blaming circumstances and started observing my own patterns.
Every time I dropped the ball, I’d ask: “What was I thinking and feeling right before I pulled away?” “What belief came up when I started to succeed?” “Was I afraid of judgment, failure, or being too much?”
And without fail, I’d uncover an old belief that didn’t match the version of myself I was trying to become.
This is what I discovered: Your brain is always checking if your goals match your identity. And if they don’t align, your subconscious will sabotage your progress to keep you safe — not successful.
That’s when I stopped trying to “push through” and started reprogramming the story underneath.
The 4-Step Process That Helped Me Rewire My Mind
Here’s what I now use — and teach — to move through self-sabotage and become the kind of woman who follows through and finishes what she starts.
This isn’t about being perfect. It’s about being intentional.
1. Awareness
Start by spotting the moment when sabotage kicks in. For me, it was usually after a win — after something went right. That’s when the fear showed up.
I’d journal on questions like:
What was I avoiding?
What am I afraid this success might cost me?
What part of me still believes I’m not ready?
That’s when I realised I was scared of being seen, of being judged, and of being responsible for a new level of success. And that fear was dictating my actions.
2. Correction
Once I recognised the pattern, I’d ask myself: “What would serve me better instead?”
Not in a toxic positivity kind of way — but a grounded, real way. I’d explore beliefs like:
It’s safe for me to grow.
I don’t need to overdeliver to be loved.
I can rest and still be successful.
I am allowed to want more without guilt.
This stage is about choosing something new — not just reacting to the old.
3. Replacement
With the new belief in mind, I’d start behaving in alignment with it.
That meant changing how I spoke to myself. How I showed up online. How I made decisions.
It wasn’t always easy, but I’d pause in the moment and ask: “What would the bold version of me choose here?”
That became my new compass.
4. Repetition
Here’s the truth most people don’t want to hear: You can’t reprogram your mind overnight.
Old beliefs were formed through repetition — and new ones need the same.
So instead of dipping in and out, I created rituals to reinforce my new identity.

When we’re in hypnosis, we enter a state of focused relaxation — like a bridge between your conscious and subconscious. This is where your brain is more suggestible, meaning it’s far more open to accepting new beliefs and ideas.
Here’s the science-y bit (but simple): In hypnosis, you enter the theta brainwave state — the same one you pass through when falling asleep or waking up.
It’s a sweet spot where the analytical mind chills out, and the subconscious becomes more receptive.
So instead of just saying you’re worthy…You start to believe it deep in your identity.

You don’t need a hypnotherapist for every session. You can create your own self-hypnosis practice — one that speaks directly to your blocks, your desires, and your future self.
How to Create Your Own Self-Hypnosis Practice
Step 1: Get Clear on the Shift You Want
Start with a specific belief or outcome you want to embody. You’re not just choosing a goal — you’re choosing a new identity to step into.
Examples:
I want to feel safe being seen.
I want to follow through on my goals.
I want to believe I’m worthy of success without hustling.
Step 2: Craft Your Script
This is where it gets sweet. You’ll guide yourself into a relaxed state, then feed your subconscious with new truths.
Here’s a simple structure you can follow:
1. Induction (to relax the body and quiet the mind):
“Take a deep breath in. As you exhale, gently close your eyes. Let yourself sink into the chair beneath you. With every breath, allow your body to feel heavier… softer… more relaxed.”
Spend about 1–2 minutes here, letting your nervous system settle. This helps you become calm, grounded, and open.
2. Deepening (to move into trance):
“Now imagine walking down a gentle staircase… with each step, you feel more at ease… more calm… more safe…”
You can visualise a place you love — a forest, a beach, somewhere peaceful. This anchors you deeper into the theta state.
3. Suggestions (this is where the reprogramming happens):
Use short, emotionally charged, present-tense affirmations. Repeat them slowly and confidently.
Examples:
“It is safe for me to be seen and celebrated.”
“I trust myself to take bold, aligned action.”
“I follow through with ease, because it’s who I am now.”
“I allow joy, success, and connection into my life.”
Make them personal and believable. Your subconscious responds best to emotionally truthful language — not empty fluff.
4. Future Visualisation (make it vivid):
Invite a mental image of your bold self.
See yourself living this new belief. What are you wearing? How do you move? What’s your energy like? How do others respond to you? Notice how natural and good this version of you feels.
This builds the neural blueprint of confidence, motivation, and safety.
5. Exit (gently return to the present):
“In a moment, I’ll count from 1 to 5. When I reach 5, you’ll open your eyes, feeling refreshed, grounded, and aligned.”
Count slowly and calmly. This allows you to come back with clarity and a sense of integration.
Step 3: Record Your Voice
You can use your phone or any free voice recording app.
Tips:
Speak slowly, clearly, and warmly.
Record in a quiet space — try to be relaxed yourself, it changes the tone of your voice.
You can add gentle music if you like, but it’s not necessary.
Name the audio something clear and purposeful so you can come back to it regularly.
Examples:
“Confidence in Action”
“Self-Worth Upgrade”
“Safe to Be Seen”
Step 4: Listen Often
Repetition is everything.
Listen often — ideally in the morning, before bed, or when your nervous system is most calm.
Don’t worry if your mind wanders. Your subconscious is still taking it in.
Let the message soak in, layer by layer.
You’ll know it’s working when:
You respond to situations differently.
You feel more ease with things that used to trigger you.
You begin choosing from love, not fear.
That’s your subconscious saying, “Got it — we’re on board now.”

Self-sabotage doesn’t mean you’re broken. It means your inner world needs your attention. It means your growth is stretching an old identity. It means something powerful is trying to emerge.
